I've been using Hallo Northern Sky for over a year, and I just downloaded the newest version. You made the best freeware on the net even better! I have tried the rest and they pale by comparison. The adding the GSC from my discs makes it a powerhouse. Thanks for your hard work and Generosity.

Best wishes,

Comments: Thank you for HNSky. I have been using it for several months and actually prefer it over several other programs that I have had a chance to use. I think it is fantastic.

In consideration of future enhancements, I would like to see HNSky have a means to custom color code the identification tags (the label identifying the object name on the sky map) of deep sky objects between types. So, galaxies identification tags could be one color, Planetary Nebula another color, Globular Clusters another and so on. Then, when the Deep Sky Level is set to 2 or 3, one can readily diffentiate the classification of objects by their identification tag colors.

Keep up the excellent work.

Clear Skies,

Del Shand

Han Kleijn, Sir:

First of all, I have to thanks you for let me known and use this beautiful program: HELLO NOTHERN SKY v2.066a. No doubt, this is the very best of the astronomy software that I have known.

Han: THANKS YOU VERY MUCH, SINCERELY. For you and all other people that colaborated with you and made possible this program.

I have downloaded all the items marked Nos. 1 to 8 (except No. 3A) in the download page. However, when I try to configure the "Objet menu" I can't get the Suplement 2 file (HNS_SUP2.SUP) and it is red marked. Question: Is the file HNS_TYC2.SUP the equivalent for HNS_SUP2.SUP and it has to be renamed?.

In this cloudy, raining and dark night I send you my best greetings from this marine petroleum production plataform (offshore) named ABKATUN-A in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico.

Very truly yours.

Ceolintzin.

Hallo RND, Yes you are right with Saturn magnitudes. Good observation. The hint label is indicating the magnutde without the rings. The correct one is the one written on the right top of the screen after you clicked on it. What do you mean with auto mode. Can you be more specific. Clear skies Han

First off, let me congratulate you on a really excellent program. It is by far the best planetarium software I've come across. However, I have 2 queries regarding HNSKY. Regarding Saturn, there is a discrepancy of 0.3 between the magnitude shown by sweeping the mouse pointer over the planet and by double-clicking it to get detailed info. (e.g. when letting the pointer hover over Saturn, I get magnitude +0.3, whereas when I double click, the table of info gives 0.0) Which is the "right" value ? Second, I miss the presence of a true "auto mode" (like in Stella Theatre Pro" by Toxsoft. Your program would be greatly improved by the inclusion of this function. Or is there already an auto mode I don't know how to invoke ?

Very nice program Han! Best I've seen yet as far as Planetarium programs goes. Did have two comments. Do you have plans to add the great red spot on jupiter to the list of moons and planets? Also when I printed a white star map from the menu i noticed the colors that I had previously set and had saved were reset to white. Is this supposed to do this? And last are there plans to interface this with optical encoders and a pointing system such as "MicroGuider I" by David Lane and the "Earth Centered Universe"? If not then I might be interested in helping to do this.

Lunar eclipse in HNSKY: As soon the phase of the Moon reaches 99.8 %, the two shadow boarders (umbra and penumbra) are drawn by the HNSKY program. The inner circle (umbra) is where the Sun light is fully blocked by the Earth. In practise still a small part of the Sun light is scattered through the Earth's atmosphere inside the umbra and the Moon will get a dark reddish color. The outer circle (Penumbra) indicates where the Sunlight is partial blocked by the Earth. Observers will see only the slightest dimming. Unless at least half of the Moon enters the penumbra, the eclipse may be undetectable !

Hallo Andre, I checked for a lunar eclipse. There is a very faint one on 31 january 99. The moon will only enter the penumbra, so change in moon color will be very faint/weak. Secondly the moon is crossing the hyades on 99-1-27. In the versions of a few weeks ago, the moon was hidden behind the hyades unless the option deepsky contours only was selected. I did not find anything else or a problem here. Here some info from the helpfile:

To Ed Rasinki, Thanks Ed, Unfortunally there is no change for a Windows CE version. If Borland makes a compiler for Lunix, maybe one for that operating system. Clear skies Han

I am impressed with the work you have done with the telescopes. I am just beginning to venture into astro-photography and your portfolio gives me a good idea what what I can caputer with the Meade ETX 90. Thanks.

A marvelous program. I just used it to answer an inquiry on the time of day of the total solar eclipse of 31 August 1932! My eclipse pages can be accessed from my homepage, given above. Two of them are: members.xoom.com/gerryf/eclipse.html members.xoom.com/gerryf/blacksea1.html

I'm already on the mailing list but I would like to have a second email address added, if possible: rasinskie@hotmail.com Please keep up the work on the application. I love it I'm going to pass it onto a couple of my neighbors who, I recently found out, are avid astronomers. Any chance for a Windows CE version ? I have an HP Jornada 680 that I would love to take the application with me when I'm viewing the skies. A notebook and an 8" SC is too much to carry.... Thanks, Ed.
