HNSKY 4.0.0s AMD64.deb typing bug?

Post by VTVL » 25 Aug 2018, 17:12

Just installed HNSKY 4.0.0s AMD64.deb on Ubuntu MATE 18.04.1.
When entering geographical coordinates of observing site each digit is doubt typed. A backspace will not remove the extra character.

Hello,

That is a weird bug. I just checked it here under Lubuntu 18.xx, but I can't reproduce this problem.

Does this also happens anywhere else like typing in the search window? I assume not.

I expect there is a problem between the red circle in the map and the typed position. Normally the red circle follows the typed position as soon you leave the input/edit box. The same if you click on the map, the red circle move to that position and the input box is updated.

Here if type my position in the input box, the red circle follows only if I leave the input box by hitting the keyboard TAB button. Does the red circle move when your are typing your position or only when you leave the input box by the TAB key ???

Han,

I did some searching. The ibus-x11 process has to be killed. Then the double typing stops immediately.
The ibus-x11 process is again present after a reboot.

To bypass this problem, you could edit the configuration file in your home folder .hnsky\default_hnsky.hns and update your position there:

E.g:
longitude=-7.000
latitude=53.0000

On another PC with UM 18.04.1 the ibus daemon and its associated processes are not present. So something that loads at start-up invokes ibus. More investigation is required ....

Problem solved:
IBus is used to support complex keyboard usage for languages such as Chinese.
In the System Language Support menu (Control Centre in UM) there is a list of installed languages and regional formats.
Also there is "Keyboard Input Method System" at the bottom. It has options IBus, XIM and none.
Select NONE.

Then reboot to be sure. A test with HNSKY shows the double character bad behaviour to be gone.

Okay. If you find any other problem please report. Also if you have suggestions to improve. That helps the development.

Clear skies, Han
