Horizon won't go away

Post by lphilpot » 16 Nov 2019, 22:29

I'm running 4.1.6b on Xubuntu 18.0.4, 64-bit

Experimenting with settings, I enabled "Local horizon example". It appeared as expected above the "theoretical" horizon. When I removed and unchecked "Local horizon example" from the Object menu, the hills and trees disappeared, but the theoretical horizon remains. I can't find where it's enabled. I've looked through ~/.hnsky/default_hnsky.hns but nothing looks likely.

How do I turn it off?

Thanks!

[Edit] I can toggle the filled / open state of the horizon, but even with it not filled, the grid lines below the horizon are a different color. If I make the horizon the same color as the grid, it effectively hides all but the single horizon line. That's workable, but I'm just wondering if there's a way to toggle the horizon entirely off (I think it was entirely off initially...?).

No there is no way to remove the horizon.

For which purpose you would remove the horizon?

In general I don't use planetarium software in the context of my location nor date / time, but rather simply as an electronic star atlas. Therefore, the astronomical objects I'm interested in at any given time may (or may not) be currently be visible from my location. In that context, the horizon doesn't serve any purpose for me -- Although I understand that others may do things differently. That's why I generally prefer to have it hidden.

Thanks.

I will do something in the next version. It used to work by making the horizon black. But with the grid below the horizon also coloured, that doesn't work anymore.

I just released a version HNSKY 4.1.7a which hides the horizon line if you make it exactly the same colour as the RA, DEC grid. Or if you make it black.

The 4.1.7a download link is for Windows. The Linux link is still labeled 4.1.6b and the downloaded package is named hnsky_amd64.deb, with no version info. Is that the new version?

Thanks.
