ASTAP on Mac OS

Post by Steed » 18 Oct 2019, 07:05

I use ASTAP on Macbook Pro, and this error box pops up when I open a file, and the plate solving get "No plate solution found". How can I fix it? Thank you.

Hello Steed,

The error indicated below should not happen. The program is tested on Windows and Linux but only briefly tested on the Mac.

I changed the location of the setting file recently but looking to your screenshot this was not properly done for the Mac.

Today I will have look to the Mac version and try to fix it.

Hello Steed,

The path is correct and the program should be able to write at that location. Maybe the best thing to do is to delete the astap.cfg file and try again. Open a terminal and remove it by the following command:

Replace h with your user name

rm "/users/h/.config/ASTAP, astrometric stacking program/astap.cfg"

or if that doesn't work:

sudo rm "/users/h/.config/ASTAP, astrometric stacking program/astap.cfg"

See if this helps. You could download in a hour ASTAP version 0.9.280 but that will not solve this problem.

I try the commands, and replace my user name, then get this:

rm: /users/steed/.config/ASTAP, astrometric stacking program/astap.cfg: No such file or directory

I am using the windows version, thank you!

Hello Steed,

Are you running ASTAP in a Windows emulator? If so, you better install the native Mac version of ASTAP. Can you try that and report back?

I run here for testing the MacOS operating system in virtualbox in Windows making testing restricted.

Hello Han,

I installed the native Mac version on my macbook pro, and got the issue I posted before. I suspect the problem is on the "," in the folder name.

Now I am using ASTAP on my thinkpad notebook, it work perfectly.

Thanks for the feedback, I will remove the comma. This long name was never intended. It should be just astap. I will upload a fix today.

There is something wrong with the folder permissions. I'm not an expert in Mac but the program need read and write permission.

A way to correct is described here:

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/m ... lp1203/mac

To go to the folder(s) use Finder and select menu File, Get Info.

You should be able to copy files in the users/../.config/astap folder.

Do you use more then one account?
