Blind Plate Solving of unknown images

Hi

Here is my use case:-
I have a number of CR2 images of unknown comets from some time ago.
I know the X & Y dimensions of the images and the camera model including the CR2 date and time stamp. I can guess at the telescope but that is all.

How do I force an effective Blind Plate Solve with ASTAP?

If the FOV (field height) is unknown, you could set it to auto. See screenshot. If the position is unknown, you could set the radius to 180 degrees (full sky)

This should solve any image but is not fast it could take maybe 10 minutes. Once you know the FOV from the first image, it is better to specify the FOV for the next similar images.

You can batch solve a number of images from the ASTAP viewer. Go to tools, first batch convert to FITS. Then batch solve the images. The solution will be stored in the FITS header.

Probably it is better to upload the images to nova.astrometry.net. Astrometry.net is more efficient in full blind solving.You can download the solved image again as new-image.fits
